More Than You Think

There is much more to recycling than meets the eye. Maybe you think that the only things you can recycle are soda cans and newspaper... I know that there were many things I didn't know that could be recycled.

Paper Objects are almost some of the most recyclable objects manufactured. If you have a ton of college papers that you wrote sitting in your closet that you haven't ever referred back to, you can recycle those. You don't even have to remove the staples. Cardboard like cereal boxes, empty toilet paper rolls, packing boxes, shoeboxes, and greeting cards can all be recyled. Magazins, newspapers, and old notebook and printer paper can be recycled as well.

Glass jars are easily recyclable too. Just make sure you wash out all glass jars really well before you try to recycle them, and don't forget to remove any labels on the outside.

Plastics. There are many many things that are plastic and that can be recycled. You can recycle; milk jugs, soda bottles, water bottles (you can also REUSE water bottles), food containers, and plastic grocery bags.

Tin cans, aliminum foil, jar lids and foil trays are also among other various recyclables.

To learn more about recycling, go to this website I found that gives you a quick guide to easy recycling. Recycle Plus

There may be more to recycling than meets the eye, so explore some options you may not have known about.

Killing the Cognizant

In Pretoria, South Africa they are lifting the ban on killing elephants. Lame excuses issue forth from the Environmental Minister, Martinus van Schalkwyk on why killing the elephants is the only way to solve the overpopulation problem. Animal rights activists are in an uproar over the legalizing of Elephant killing. An interesting quote from this article points to the cognitive powers of the elephant and as a tribute to how intelligent they are Michele Pickover posed the question, "How much like us do elephants have to be before killing them becomes murder?" For more on this article check out this link.

Biofuel takes Giant Steps Forward

Now airlines are seriously looking into different forms of biofuel. They are looking into a palm/coconut oil type of biofuel, ethanol of course, and ...algae?! Yes you read right... algae.

Take a look at this interesting article I found in Scientific American. Here's a link to the online article.

Mahalo Daily is Green

Mahalo Daily is a terrific show for many reasons. It is well produced, it has great content, Veronica Belmont is an awesome host, it's creative and fun
...... and ...... green?

Yes I spied three episodes in particular that dealt with environmental and humanitarian issues.

Episode 16: Donating to Charity
http://daily.mahalo.com/2007/12/03/md016-donating-to-charity/

Episode 49: Tom's Shoes
http://daily.mahalo.com/2008/02/04/md049-toms-shoes/

Episode 59: Green Clothing
http://daily.mahalo.com/2008/02/18/md059-green-clothing/

I'm addicted to this daily podcast, and I'm happy to see that they are concerned about helping out in whatever ways they can.

Cheers Mahalo!

First Installment of Waste Not, Want Not: The Vlog

Oh wow, I have a lot of room for improvement as far as vlogging goes. Please tell me what you'd like to see more of and what I really need to stop doing (haha). I thought about doing it over, but that may take a while, and really, I'm just here to deliver a message. There's no need to be flashy or fake. Give me a chance, maybe I'll get better, and until then I hope my enthusiasm for the environment will rub off on everyone.

A Uniting Factor

There aren't many things that brings humanity together anymore. Especially regarding religions. It seems that having differing religious beliefs often sparks more wars and fights and problems than anything else.

Maybe all of that can change. We saw the United States (all walks of life, religion, and race) come together during 9/11 and during Hurricaine Katrina to help out their fellow man. Maybe mankind can band together to save Mother Earth, something that concerns people of all faiths. If we can put aside our differences and embrace our similarities we can get things back to where they should be, for the earth and for humanity.

I found this website today and thought it was wonderful. Please check out the message they are trying to get out.

Making Greenhouse Gases Green

Scientists are hard at work on something pretty innovative, how to extract carbon dioxide from the air and turn it into fuel. Here's a link to the complete article. It is source from the New York Times.

Anything that turns a negative into a positive in this world is a welcome change.
